There is a piece of software (freeware) that does the trick for both windows and mac, and it's called sightspeed. When will apple make an iChat version that works for windows as well? I'm both videochatting with mac and PC users. Or aren't they prood enough to proof that they can make software that is the best for both PC and Mac? perhaps they wake up and start working on it? I've send this to the feedback site Ralph mentioned. I have to believe that if experienced Mac users are having problems, then so are inexperienced. But there is likely just as many people experiencing problems that don't know where to go, or just give up. Yes these forums attract people with problems looking for answers. This is the only time I can remember that a PC user can say, "well it just works for me" and the Mac users says, "well if you would just configure this and download that, and." No one is saying it doesn't have superior video, etc. I got an original Mac in '84 and have been using them ever since. I'm with the group that feels this is one of the most troublesome hardware/software products Apple has ever produced. Kind of wondering what other people thought about the idea, and whether it was feasible. It was more of a general suggestion, and as Ralph pointed out there is a way to make suggestions to Apple. I know my friends would install it if we could get the quality of video that we should. Of course a Windows version isn't going to fix all the problems, but it could ensure that the compatibility was there and the settings correct. Success seems to be hit and miss, for example I can only connect when they initiate the video chat. Even when doing this success is erratic and the AIM program problematic. Then they may or may not have to tune it, set the firewall, etc. To video chat with us we ask them to download and install AIM. (.mac messaging?)Īs we all know, our many PC friends use MSN, Yahoo and AIM.
Along with that they should drop the AIM protocol and use their own.
After reading this forum and the iSight forum for for awhile now and having trouble connecting with various PC friends at times, it seems to me that the most reasonable solution to at least a large portion of the problems would be to develop and release a Windows version of iChat.
